Dutch Passion is one of the oldest cannabis seed companies in the world and one of the few remaining original seed companies. We offer our customers a wide range of classic marijuana strains as well as a number of great new varieties. We also offer both regular and feminized seeds. We started in the 70s and in 1987 Dutch Passion was officially registered as a seed company.
The success of our company is based on 3 main principles.
First, we collect and grow the best hemp seeds so that hemp growers around the world can grow their own high-quality hemp plants.
Secondly, we continue to innovate. In the 90s we invented feminized seeds, and more recently we have set high standards with our feminized autoflowering seeds. Dutch Passion is not afraid to break the mold in order to offer high-quality cannabis seeds to our customers.
Thirdly, we provide excellent customer service to our customers. We have been selling high-quality cannabis seeds for decades and currently have millions of satisfied customers worldwide. If for any reason you are not satisfied with our seeds, please contact us and we will resolve the issue.

All our strains are carefully selected and created according to the highest quality standards. Most of our cannabis strains have won several prestigious awards and are considered to be among the best strains ever created by man. Our strains such as White Widow, Blueberry, Skunk #11, Power Plant and Mazar have become some of the most popular cannabis strains in the world. Most new seed companies base their strains on the original Dutch Passion strains.
Our legendary marijuana strains are as popular today as they were in the 80s and 90s. Most of these strains are available as regular or feminized seeds. Our goal is to offer our customers the most reliable and high-quality cannabis seeds, and Dutch Passion has around 50 different marijuana strains in its product range.
When we find a new high-quality cannabis strain, we add it to our range, even if this sometimes means excluding less popular strains. This way, we always maintain a competitive range of the most popular and high-quality cannabis seeds. Each new cannabis strain has to be really good to be included in our company’s catalog. In addition, before being released to the public, the cultivation of all new cannabis strains is recorded in our customers’ online cannabis growing diaries. Early years
The Dutch Passion seed company was officially registered in Amsterdam in 1987, but the company's roots go back to 1972, when Dutch Passion founder Henk Van Dalen began growing cannabis in Holland for his own use. Henk studied biology at the University of Amsterdam for 6 years from 1970 to 1976. At the same time, he attended courses in pharmacology and studied the effects of hallucinogens and other drugs. In addition to his studies at the university, Henk read a lot of additional literature and soon became one of the most famous cannabis growers in the world.
Henk used seeds of cannabis imported from Thailand and Nigeria. He began to cross these plants with other varieties of cannabis that he had acquired from cannabis growers he knew. His reputation grew steadily and it soon became apparent that the quality of cannabis grown from Henk's seeds was much higher than that of cannabis imported to Holland from Asia, Africa and other countries. In the early 80s, Henk offered small quantities of seeds to other cannabis growers. The Passion #1 variety (known as Amstel Gold at the time) had 18% THC and was in no way inferior to the best and extremely popular Pakistani cannabis variety Chitral at the time.
This was an important time in the history of cannabis. People were beginning to realize that high-quality marijuana no longer had to be imported from overseas. The early work of Henk and other growers had shown that anyone could easily grow their own cannabis plants from suitable seeds that were as good as cannabis imported from traditional cannabis-producing countries. Thus, the “seeds were sown,” and more and more people began growing cannabis at home.
Henk continued his work. In 1988, he opened a coffee shop called “Homegrown Fantasy”. It was the first coffee shop in Holland (and therefore in the world) to sell only cannabis grown and processed in the Netherlands. Today, the coffee shop is under new ownership and has nothing to do with Dutch Passion. Henk’s reputation continued to grow after his original cannabis strain Haze/Skunk won the High Times prize. At that time (1992), this prize was not awarded to seed companies, but to coffee shops that sold cannabis seeds to growers.
Eventually, it became clear to Henk that people who smoke marijuana for medical and recreational purposes could grow cannabis plants from seeds. Growing your own cannabis is becoming more commonplace today, but in the 1980s, the idea that home-grown cannabis would become widespread was considered radical. By then, Henk had accumulated enough knowledge about cannabis cultivation that in 1987 he founded the seed company Dutch Passion. His goal was to offer customers the best cannabis seeds possible, and this principle still underlies the Dutch Passion concept today.

Feminized seeds.
One of the most significant contributions of Henk and Dutch Passion to the home growing industry was the creation of feminized seeds in the 90s. For the average home grower, the creation of feminized seeds was a very important innovation. It meant that home growers no longer had to maintain a permanent grow room for mother plants. They also no longer had to rely on grower friends to get cuttings. Home growers did not want to grow a large number of plants just to get a few female plants. According to our customers, the main reason for growing cannabis is to grow their own cannabis plants for medical and recreational purposes. In addition, our customers told us that they did not want to grow more plants than necessary, which is why feminized seeds were very important to them. Our customers also told us that they did not want to grow a mother plant every year for 52 weeks in order to grow cannabis from cuttings. Growing cannabis from feminized seeds allowed growers to reduce their energy costs because they no longer had to spend extra electricity to grow and care for mother or male plants. Thus, the creation of feminized seeds had a significant impact on indoor cannabis growing. Three books had a significant impact on Henk’s knowledge of cannabis cultivation: The Marijuana Grower’s Guide (1978) by Mel Frank and Ed Rosenthal, Marijuana Botany (1981) by Robert Connell Clark, and Growing Marijuana Indoors (1983) by Jorge Cervantes. Rosenthal's comments about the possibilities of female seeds were especially interesting to Henk, who has always tried to make growing marijuana at home easier and more convenient.
The idea of creating feminized seeds was often discussed, but no one was sure if it was possible or not. Henk noticed that if a female cannabis plant was left to grow long enough, it would tend to produce male plants by the end of its life. These male plants would in turn produce “female” pollen. The resulting seeds would then grow into female plants. Henk began developing this method by methodically studying the various stages of cannabis plant development. He noticed that if the female plants were left to grow long enough, almost all would tend to produce a small number of male flowers. This is a natural survival mechanism for cannabis plants, allowing them to produce seeds even in the absence of male plants. Henk still remembers his first experiment, when he first collected “female pollen” and pollinated a small number of female plants. He then collected and germinated 50 seeds. All of these seeds grew into female cannabis plants, and it was a historic moment for Henk and Dutch Passion. The first feminized seeds sold out very quickly, and the exceptional popularity of these seeds led to a sharp increase in demand for them. The next task that Henk faced was to find a way to produce large quantities of "female pollen", which in turn would lead to the production of significant quantities of feminized seeds to meet the growing demand. To solve this problem, Henk used his knowledge of biology. He began experimenting with various types of vegetables, such as cucumbers. Plant growth regulators and other, simpler methods can be used to change the morphology and physiology of plants without disrupting the normal development of female plants. Henk carried out the necessary research and eventually discovered a way to produce large quantities of pollen, which in turn led to an increase in the production of feminized seeds to meet the growing demand from cannabis growers.
Feminized seeds make up the majority of seeds sold today. The process of feminizing seeds has been improved and is now extremely reliable and consistent. Most seed companies only offer feminized seeds.
Although Dutch Passion invented feminized seeds, we also sell regular “non-feminized” seeds, which make up about a third of the total number of seeds we sell. This is so that customers can experiment, cross-breed, and create their own strains. Most Dutch Passion seeds are feminized, but we do sell regular seeds for those customers who are interested.

Autofeminized seeds
Over the last few years, Dutch Passion has invested a lot of money and effort into autofeminized cannabis seeds. Autofeminized seeds produce adult female plants in about 10 weeks, making them an efficient and convenient alternative to traditional cannabis strains. The quantity and quality of marijuana grown from these seeds is comparable to traditional cannabis strains. Autofeminized seeds grow on a light cycle of 20 hours of light and 4 hours of darkness indoors. Excellent results can be achieved when grown in a greenhouse or outdoors. Autofeminized seeds can be grown outdoors even during the very short summer period, which is why they have become one of Dutch Passion’s most popular and best-selling seeds. Since 2010, autofeminized seeds have become increasingly popular among cannabis growers. The development of autofeminized cannabis genetics is a dynamically developing process, so we will continue to improve our range of autofeminized seeds.
Unlike normal feminized seeds of traditional strains, autofeminized cannabis plants begin to flower automatically, regardless of the light cycle. This means that when growing these seeds indoors, the light cycle can remain the same throughout the entire growing period of autofeminized plants, namely 20 hours of light. Traditional cannabis strains need 12 hours of light and 12 hours of darkness to begin flowering. When growing autofeminized plants indoors, they begin to flower only depending on their age, and most autofeminized strains are usually ready for harvest 10 weeks after germination.

Medical marijuana
According to Dutch Passion, all marijuana has medicinal properties. Some strains, however, such as Ortega Indica, are particularly useful for growers who grow marijuana for medical purposes. In 2012, Dutch Passion announced a partnership with The CBD Crew to create strains with high levels of CBD. We know that cannabis is a plant that is used for a variety of purposes. People primarily smoke marijuana for recreational purposes, but the use of cannabis for medical purposes is becoming increasingly common. While much more research needs to be done to understand the medical effects of this plant, we know that many people suffering from various medical conditions benefit greatly from using cannabis.
The international movement for regulation and legalization of marijuana is becoming more and more popular, and we are convinced that very soon people will be able to freely use cannabis in civilized countries. Cannabis is very important, so we offer hemp seeds to our customers so that everyone can grow their own marijuana. Thanks to the seeds we provide, cannabis users do not have to rely on others to get marijuana. In addition, our customers can be sure of the high quality of our seeds. We are a serious company, so we encourage responsible use of cannabis and recommend our customers to read the information about this plant and use it very carefully. Cannabis is not recommended for use in certain situations, and some people should not use it at all. Before using cannabis for medical purposes, we advise our customers to consult a doctor, and many people follow this advice. Other hemp products
In 1994, Henk opened the first hemp shop in Holland, called Green Lands. The shop sold, among other things, hemp fabrics and clothing, hemp burgers, hemp oil and hemp seeds. Hemp burgers are one of Henk's own inventions. The hemp seeds offered in this shop were very different from the cannabis seeds that Dutch Passion offers today. The seeds sold in Green Lands were only collected from plants that did not contain the substance THC. Hemp (hemp stalk fiber) is one of the strongest fibers in the world, and hemp oil is one of the most nutritious and healthy oils in the world. Green Lands is no longer in business, so all our attention is focused on the development of Dutch Passion.
